Buggy ToursTake a Mountain Tour in a nostalgic Manx Style Dune Buggy. These buggies are fun to drive on the street or back country & are well suited to access remote areas in the wilderness. Our Buggies are licensed and insured vehicles that come in 2-seat and 4-seat capacities. They are Rented with a Guide for all U-Drive and Passenger Tours. Enjoy the fresh air experience in the rugged outdoors and visit some of the most scenic places in British Columbia. DestinationsSelect from a variety of Destination Tours listed on our web site. Most Tour areas around Hope are only accessible throughout the spring and summer months and are selected based on the customer’s ability. Tours can be relaxing and meandering drives beside a remote shady creek or more exhilarating mountain climbs over rocky outcrops on steeper terrain. Other Tour areas include dense bush trails that lead into the unknown. ReservationsWe recommend reservations but also accept drop-in customers at the Kawkawa lake Resort. Large groups and corporate tours must reserve by cheque 15 days before Tour. Generally weekends may only have 2 or 3 tours out each day, so you might not get a booking on a popular weekend unless you reserve. Customers are welcome to reserve on short notice with cash. Deposits are also by cash unless paid 15 days prior to the Tour date reserved. Tour GuidesTours are guided by an experienced guide that has years of backcountry experience. They will inform you of basic maneuvers that may be required to overcome obstacles encounter on the trails. If you have a problem along the way you can alert the guide with a CB radio provided to you by BC Buggy. After a few maneuvers you are on your way to excitement and fun as you build confidence to challenge the mountain. About BC Buggy Ltd.

The Tour vehicle of choice is the nostalgic shortened VW Dune Buggy suitable for paved or unpaved road conditions. Wilderness tours

breath-taking views with natural wilderness scenes difficult to find without the direction of the tour guide. All Tours are within an hour or less from our Base Camp at Kawkawa Lake Resort. Tours packages are listed on the web site and times can vary depending on the experience of the driver or routes taken. We offer U-Drives and Passenger Tours for up to 12 people. Larger tours need to contact us for availability of Buggies. The Wilderness
The area around Hope has abundant Wildlife and it is commonplace to see Black, Strawberry and Brown Bears on the roads, or in the bushes near by. These animals usually avoid humans and may stop to look out of curiosity more than aggression. They will run from the site of humans unless protecting their cubs so, a rule in the backcountry is to avoid approaching the animals and they move on their way. Other animals that may be encountered include deer, bobcat and many other smaller local species. We all have the responsibility to keep our environment clean so when you bring a lunch into the wilderness you pack out whatever you pack in. Smoking is prohibited while driving and during any provincial fire bans. Buggy Tour Location
The Guided Mountain Tours depart from Kawkawa Lake Resort. The BC Buggy business office is located 5 minutes from Kawkawa Lake on 40 acres of backcountry near public access to Crown land. Please No Drop-ins to our office without an appointment. We can be contacted directly at The Kawkawa Lake Resort & Campground. Buggy Rental Prices

If you are looking for an exciting new kind of business opportunity, here it is. About the Business
This business is fully set-up and ready to grow. You will venture into an outdoor business that is welcomed to be part of the community no matter where you choose to locate. We selected the Hope area to start the business over 10 years ago for the variety of quick access routes to the great outdoors. Is this Business for you?
BC Buggy Ltd. can be yours if you are prepared to put in some time to learn the business and see the rewards. The company has generated excellent profits prior to the economic downturn and can do it again if properly capitalized. The Coast and Cascade Mountain Ranges have a lot to offer off-road travellers and are easily accessible with well marked trails off many of the local logging roads. Our Mountain Tour business has allowed us to get away and share our experiences with people who would seldom venture far past the tree lines. How we run the Business
Our motto is; Point and Go... so we explore all areas within 5 to 20 minutes from our local base camp. BC Buggy Ltd. has operated a fleet of six or more fibreglass Dune Buggy cars that are currently ready to go. They come in an exciting assortment of colours with various body styles that have a nostalgic and cultural significance. All the Buggies are in good mechanical condition and only require minor maintenance and adjustments over the season. That typically entails minor brake adjustments, carburetor air element cleaning and battery charging. If we experience a mechanical failure we have many of our own parts in stock that belong to the company. We have operated the company on a seasonal basis and realize it will require a recapitalization to grow the business. Our interest would be best served with a private investor that is looking to take over the business or start a year round outdoor recreational Resort style business. Try before you Buy
The best way to learn about the business is to try it yourself. Come for a Mountain Tour and see our business first hand, then you'll know the true potential of the business.
If you are interested in acquiring BC Buggy Ltd. then you can contact us for a more detailed overview of the company and its operations. The company will be sold or acquired as a partnership. The current owners are looking for an outdoor enthusiast to take over running the business, and will include all the necessary information required to streamline the takeover and continue to operate the business. All the Buggies and company infrastructure is included. The Buggy site location, Tour guide and mechanical services will be negotiated by contract. Contact us for more information. How to Drive a Buggy in the Mountains
If this is your first time out in the mountains you should read this guide. There are some basic maneuvers under certain conditions that you learn before operating a Buggy off road.
The Buggy
You'll be driving a standard 4 speed Volkswagen Dune Buggy that has been upgraded for off-road driving conditions. The buggies have dirt tires, coil over shocks and stock torsion bars in the front and back. Use the stick shift as you would any 4 speed standard transmission. After a short time it becomes second nature and you are on your way to an exciting adventure.
Safe Distance to Follow
The buggies have dual exhaust and are a little nosier than the typical SUV but they go where the SUV's and larger vehicles can't. Stay back 50-100 feet or so to avoid noise or exhaust from the buggy in front of you. Keep within eye contact when possible. Some trails can be a little over grown so watch for low branches. Take care when approaching hills and blind corners as other vehicles use the back country as well.
Stunting
Everybody starts out a little anxious and wants to have a little fun, but there is a difference in having fun and driving dangerously or causing damage to the machines from excessive abuse. This does not mean you can't have fun, just have a little respect for our machines and remember that they are not Hummers. Damage from excessive abuse could be a bent wheel spindle or punctured wheel. We do not tolerate clients if they do clutch dumping burnouts, donuts, jumps or racing with each other. We will have to cancel the tour and you will lose any time left over, and if you cause damage to the vehicle in the process of stunting you will be held liable for the repairs.
How to Ascend a Hill
When you make your first accents up the mountain, the hills tend to look steeper than they really are. You can be intimidated easily so just keep in mind that if the car in front of you made it up then you can too. You will get less worried about climbing the hills and will eventually look for more challenging hills to climb. There is a limitation to the traction and slope of the hill. You will have a harder time going up loose gravel slopes than firm grass slopes. Typically there are a few routes one can take and some have quad trails that jet up steeper embankments. These embankments are only for very experienced drivers or quad riders so stay on the trail that the guide is on.
Stuck going up a Hill
If you failed to negotiate a hill and stop, hold the hand brake and use foot brake to stop you from going down backwards. If you have to go down backwards then just keep your wheels straight and use the foot brake only. Note: The hand brake works on the back wheels only and is useful for going forward down a steep hill.
How to Descend a Hill
When you come to a steep hill and know you want to go down it, use 1st gear and let the buggy roll at it's own speed while operating the Hand Brake to slow you when you pickup speed. Since the Hand Brake works on the back wheels, it acts as a rudder to keep the car straight. Try to keep your wheels straight as you descend the hill and you'll find the car will just drag itself down the slope with little problem. If you experience braking problems you have your mechanical Hand Brake as your backup along with gearing down to slow the buggy to stop.
Unsure about a particular Climb
If you are uncertain about a particular hill or part of road you are on, call your guide for instructions. When you follow another buggy you will see how they maneuver the obstacles. Copy the maneuver that the driver in front of you does and you will see how much easier it is.
Crossing a Trench
Often you may encounter drainage ditches or trenches. Approach at an angle and your car will twist slightly as you pull up and out. Aim for the higher parts in the trench and keep your speed to a minimal but do not stall. Once in the trench you can power out and be on your way. It is more difficult to cross trenches going up a hill, and easier going down the hill. The objective is to keep the wheels on the ground whenever possible.
Crossing a Creek
Small creeks are more common early in the season. Cross the creek on the flattest part of the rocks and avoid holes. Go for the higher spots on the rocks and stay way from silt and sandy areas to avoid sinking.
Crossing a Log
Our buggies have 14" front wheels so limit the size of a log to approximately 12" unless the log is shored up. Since the buggies have a flat skid pan we can slide over the log with little difficulty. Usually before you start going over logs you would scout further ahead on foot to assess the situation.
Crossing Riprap
When you approach Riprap put your clutch in and allow the buggy to roll over the rocks slowly. Use your clutch as needed to keep the car moving and the hand brake to slow you. Go for the flattest route and avoid holes in the rocks. Keep in mind your most vulnerable spots on the buggy are the shock mounts for the rear wheels. Avoid large rocks near these shock mounts and skid over top the rocks in the middle of the car when necessary.
Parking on a hill
Pull your buggy toward the upper dirt bank edge and park so you are facing toward the bank, not downhill. If you leave the buggy unattended, place a rock behind or in front of the car wheels. Whenever possible park on the flattest spot available or proceed to another more suitable location to stop.
Renting a 2 Seat Buggy
Customers can rent one to four - 2 seat Buggies with a passenger in each buggy. Drivers may change provided they both have a valid licence. Restrictions:
There is no restriction for the rental of 2 seat buggies as there can only be 2 Drivers per car. Some customers prefer to drive alone and can rent their own separate buggy. When all the 2-seat buggies are rented we substitute 4-seaters rented out as 2-seaters. About the Buggy:
Most of the buggies are swing arm style buggies. They have 2 axils with 2 inner CV joints. The inner CV joint moves up and down during travel while the outer part of the axils stays fixed perpendicular to the wheel drum fixed to the transaxle. The wheel sits perpendicular to the axils and flattens out in on load and travel. This gives the car a good corner bite for traction and a smoother ride on rougher terrain. We have 1-IRS buggy that has inner and outer CV joints. This style of buggy has the back wheels flat to the ground and provides fairly good traction. Tour Reservations:
To book a Tour please call or e-mail BC Buggy to request your date. We will confirm the date is available and contact you back with all the necessary information for your Tour Reservation. You can also drop in at the Kawkawa Lake Resort & Campground and request a reservation. If we are available that day we can set a time to depart that day. Passengers
Rental customers can take either an adult, children or teenagers as passengers. If you require more legroom we can provide a longer buggy to accommodate larger people. The 2-seaters are popular on holidays and we have a great response from our customers and passengers. Never driven a Dune Buggy?
If you have never driven a buggy then please let us know and we will arrange a special starter course to help you become more familiar with the buggy before going on a more difficult climbing tour. Many customers like the starter and learn the manoeuvres required quickly. The course takes 30 minutes to complete and is an experience in itself. Renting a 4 Seat Buggy
Customers can rent one or two - 4 seat Buggies with 3 passengers in each buggy. Only two Drivers may change provided they both have a valid licence. Restrictions:
There is no restriction for the rental of 4 seat buggies except there can only be 2 Drivers per car. If you have more than 2 drivers then they would have to rent their own buggy. About the Buggy:
The 4 seat buggies are both swing arm style buggies. They have 2 axils with 2 inner CV joints. The inner CV joint moves up and down during travel while the outer part of the axils stays fixed perpendicular to the wheel drum fixed to the transaxil. The wheel sits perpendicular to the axils and flattens out in on load and travel. This gives the car a good corner bite for traction and a smoother ride on rougher terrain. Tour Reservations:

We have a good demand for the 4 seater on holidays and have had a great response from our customers and their passengers. Never driven a Dune Buggy?
